A total of 35 first class students out of 5,051 graduands of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) ave been penciled down for award of various degrees and diplomas to mark the 2024/2025 9th convocation ceremony slated for Saturday.

The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi in a week long activities slated to mark the commencement of the programme on Monday, said that the overall best student, Sheriff Ohieku with CGPA of 4.77 hails from the department of Geology.

Speaking at the press briefing to mark the formal commencement of the activities Monday, Professor Akinwumi lavishly showered encomiums on those who have assisted his five year administration to rejig the institution to an enviable height.

His word, ” since our last convocation, the University has continued to make tremendous progress in academics, infrastructure, research, innovation and partnership consistent with our vision of transforming Federal University Lokoja into a world-class institution”.

Of significance to him is the undeniable fact that the 9th convocation marks the last convocation under his administration as the third Vice Chancellor of the ivory tower.

He lighted his achievements under his brief sojourn to the University to include expansion of faculties and academic programmes, accreditation and quality assurance, academic affiliation and partnerships and establishment of Institutes and centres.

Others include academic culture and intellectual vibrancy, confluences, workshops and capacity building and Staff welfare, promotion of staff, infrastructural transformation and Federal University Lokoja Endowment Fund.

As he put it, “as we celebrate this convocation, I invite you all to join us in showcasing the story of transformation and hope that Federal University Lokoja represents a story of resilience, progress and vision fulfilled”.

He concluded his speech by saying that he stands fulfilled that “we have collectively moved the institution forward”.

Present at the press briefing were the Registrar of the University, Deputy Vice, Chancellors of both academic and Administration, University Librarian, and the pioneer Dean, College of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Gbenga Ibileye of the Department of English.
