IN its quest to facilitate the execution of meaningful projects to brace its 9-point smart agenda trajectory for the benefit of citizens, Sokoto state government has approved the award of multi million naira education, transport and agriculture projects contracts across the state.

The approval is aimed at driving responsive steps towards ensuring human capital development and job creation for accelerated infrastructural impact across the state.

Disclosing the development at a press briefing after the weekly executive council meeting on Wednesday where series of memos were approved for the contracts , Sambo Bello Danchadi, Commissioner of Information said furnishing of a new library, two science laboratories, and six classrooms aimed at enhancing science education across the state formed part of the approvals presented by relevant ministries valued at
₦122,937,000 with a completion period of 3 months .

Explaining further, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Abubakar Ala, said his ministry received approval for two key projects for the rehabilitation of the Sokoto Education Resource Centre at ₦457,773,863.04 for completion in six months.

While giving an invite on its significance, Professor Ala said the facility produces learning materials like textbooks, chalk, file jackets, and also serves as a multipurpose hall, which will generate revenue and employment for the state.

In the same vein, he mentioned the procurement of 230 sewing machines and 230 knitting machines to train 460 youths and women across all 23 local government areas as the second project approved by the council.

Hitherto, the Commissioner disclosed that the project was a collaboration between the Sokoto State Government and UNICEF, stressing that ” it is aimed at empowering the youth and women through vocational training at the cost of
₦69 million and to be delivered in 2 months for the commencement of training accordingly.”

On his party, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Tukur Alkali said in its renewed efforts at boosting agriculture, the state government at the council meeting approved ₦1.87 billion for the procurement and sales of assorted( Urea and NPK) fertilizers products at subsidised prices to support farmers for the current farming season in addition to the contract for the supply of assorted seeds and agrochemicals to farmers across the state at the cost of N96,995,000.

The Commissioner also announced the procurement of instructional materials worth N89,983,200 to facilitate the accreditation of the College of Agriculture in Wurno Local Government Area.

“In addition, Samadji Global Investment Limited was awarded a contract worth ₦96,995,000 for the supply of assorted seeds and agrochemicals to farmers across the state”

Alkali further announced the approval of ₦89,983,200 for the procurement of instructional materials to facilitate the accreditation of the College of Agriculture in Wurno Local Government Area
initiated during the administration of former governor Aliyu Wamakko and left dormant.

” The college is being revived under the current administration of governor Aliyu Sokoto to facilitate the admission of more students to become future agriculture professionals and experts through this purposeful intervention that would encourage and maintain excellence for ease of accreditation and enrolment “, Alkali said.

The landscaping and construction of continental wavelength works at the Sokoto State Transport Establishment (SSTE) located at Tasha Alu) in the metropolis, according to Bala Kokani , the Commissioner for Transport would gulp
₦261,026,211 within 4 months completion period.

All contracts according to the briefing, symbolised responsive commitment of the state government at ensuring timely completion and without cost variations, in line with Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s drive to reposition the state for sustainable development.

” These projects are mere numbers but part of a broader vision hinged on the state government 9-point smart agenda drive to empower our people, improve infrastructure, and invest in our future,” the commissioner for information pointed out.
