Yobe State Government under its World Bank Programme, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has commissioned and handed over a Livestock Market to Geidam Local Government Area of the state after the former market was converted Ultra Modern market.

Before the handing over, the Project Coordinator, L-PRES in Yobe State, Adama Hussaini Madaki said the market which was constructed in the last 12 months covers 400 meter by 400 meter perimeter fencing with gates, security outpost, and veterinary clinic among others.

“The completed livestock market has 400 meter by 400 meter perimeter fencing with gates, security outpost, veterinary clinic, administrative block and solar powered boreholes and drinking points”.

“It also has loading and off-loading ramps, toilets and livestock weighing scale instead of using size to ascertain cost of everything livestock” she said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Musa Abba Kolere who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni at the handing over said the project would create jobs as well improve the revenue generation of the local government area.

“Livestock markets play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of every community. It goes beyond the mere selling and buying of animals, it creates a dynamic platforms that enhances livelihood, strengthens food security, and promotes local development.

“The benefits of this kind of sector development include revenue generation, employment opportunities, food security and market access,” he said.

The Director Personnel Management of Geidam local government area, Suleiman Abubakar Chiroma who received the documents of the market on behalf of the Executive Chairman thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni for selecting Geidam to benefit from the multi-million naira project.

He called on individuals into the business of livestock selling and buying to ensure they relocate immediately to the new site as all the necessary infrastructure at the market have been provided including security.
