Felicia Amos Dauda of The Scope Newspaper has emerged as the new Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Adamawa State Chapter.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Maria Albert Zira, announced Dauda as duly elected, having secured 44 votes to defeat her rival, Rose Anthony Elishama of Adamawa Television (ATV), who garnered 27 votes in a keenly contested election held on Saturday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Yola.

Also elected unopposed, include Zainab Bala-Jimeta of the Ministry of Information as Vice Chairperson and Gloria Abutu of Radio Nigeria Fombina FM as Secretary-General.

Others are Falluma Vanco of the Ministry of Information as Treasurer, Aida Asama Muhammadu of the Ministry of Information as Assistant Secretary-General, and Nafeesa Vandi of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as Financial Secretary.

New Nigerian reports that delegates from nine chapels across the state took part in the exercise, which was supervised by officials from the national leadership of the association.

National Trustee of NAWOJ, Comrade Ruth Absalom, who represented the National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, commended the electoral committee for conducting what she described as one of the most peaceful and transparent elections in recent times.

Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abdullahi Ibrahim, while congratulating the new leadership, urged them to embrace teamwork and uphold the values of ethical journalism.

In her acceptance speech, Felicia Dauda expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work towards the unity and progress of the association in Adamawa State.
