A World Bank Funded-project, ‘Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Zamfara State Office has assured of accountability and transparency on its education Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme.

Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau, State AGILE Projects’ Coordinator gave the assurance in Gusau while distributing the ATM cards to the beneficiaries of the project’s Education Cash Transfer Programme.

During the exercise, the State Project Coordinator distributed the ATM cards to the beneficiaries in Government Girl’s Day Secondary School Gada Biyu, Government Girl’s Day Secondary School Unguwar Danbaba Tsunami Area Gusau and Government Girl’s Day Secondary School Byepass Gusau.

The Project Coordinator was accompanied by the Conditional Cash Transfer officer of Zamfara AGILE office, Ummu-Salma Abubakar and other staff of the office.

Abdu-Gusau described the cash transfer program as a milestone for the future education of adolescent girls in the state.

She called on parents and guardians of beneficiaries of cash transfer programme to ensure transparency and accountability for its success.

“This is inline with Gov Dauda Lawal’s commitments to promote future education of adolescent girls in the state.

“A total of 8,593 adolescent girls are to benefit from N60,000 each annually across the state under the conditional cash transfer programme of the AGILE project.

“We have to ensure transparency and accountability to support their children’s education through the Conditional Cash Transfer programme”, the Coordinator said.

She noted: “As we all know, educating a woman is like educating the whole society, therefore parents and guardians especially the women, we must ensure we use this support judiciously.

“All the beneficiaries are adolescent girls selected from Girls Secondary Schools across state.

“This is the first payment of N40,000 to each beneficiary, the second payment would be a N20,000 for each.

“Each beneficiary must record at least 70 percent attendance on school register before she will continue to receive the financial support.

“I am, therefore, calling on parents and guardians to utilize the support to be given to their children for education purposes only,”she said.

According to her, the cash transfer support is aimed at assisting the adolescent girls to complete their secondary school education.

“I am therefore appealing to you to ensure transparency and accountability while utilising the money.

“As parents and guardians, we should take advantage of this programme aimed to promote female education in the state.

“I urge you to report any person demanding even a single job from this programme.

“The AGILE office engaged various stakeholders including, Parents and Guardians, Teachers,
Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency, Media among others to monitor the success of the cash transfer programme in their respective areas,” Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau added.
