The Nigerian Army has immortalised the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, with the official naming of a golf range at the TYB Golf Course.
The unveiling ceremony, which drew top military officials, dignitaries, and members of the General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation, took place on September 26, 2025 in Abuja.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General O.O. Oluyede, who was represented by the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo described the gesture as a reflection of the Army’s commitment to preserving the legacy of its fallen heroes.
General Oluyede also noted that the late General Attahiru was not only a distinguished officer, but also a leader whose sacrifices and service to the nation would continue to inspire future generations of officers and soldiers.
The commissioning was formally performed by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Faruk Yahaya, who paid glowing tributes to his late predecessor.
Lt. Gen Yahaya emphasised that General Attahiru’s memory remained deeply etched in the heart of the Nigerian Army and the nation at large. He recalled the late Army Chief’s reforms, vision for the military, and his dedication to building a professional and people-centered army.
The Secretary of the General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation, Honourable Usman Shehu Bawa ABG described the gesture as, “a symbolic effort to safeguard the ideals and values” that the late General stood for.
Hon. ABG commended the Nigerian Army leadership under General Oluyede for the gesture, which he said would not only preserve the legacy of the late COAS but also serve as a rallying point for promoting unity between the military and the civil populace.
He further stressed that the foundation will continue to work closely with the military to ensure the legacies of General Attahiru are immortalised and his dreams of a strong, united Nigeria are pursued.
He reiterated the commitment of the foundation to championing causes that reflect the late Army Chief’s ideals, including leadership, discipline, patriotism, and community development.
Dignitaries at the event lauded the initiative, stressing that immortalising leaders who laid down their lives for the nation is crucial for motivating the younger generation and instilling a culture of sacrifice.
Speakers further noted that such legacies will inspire serving officers to give their best in defending the nation, knowing that their service and sacrifices will never be forgotten.
The dedication of the golf range adds to other initiatives by the Army and the Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation to immortalise the late General, who died in a tragic plane crash in 2021 while on active duty.
