Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has said Nigeria should be seen to be doing more to reflect positive development as a nation before the outside world.
Abubakar made the remarks on Tuesday at the inauguration of St. Bakhita Catholic ICT facility initiated by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and equipped by Aare Afe Babalola SAN.
The revered leader appealed to Nigerians not to give way to non Nigerians to play the script of the country’s situation with ignorance stressing that when ever anything is wrong, Nigerians should amicably resolve their issues.
” Why do we allow someone in far away America to be saying what is not. These people are ignorant of our terrains and activities .They don’t even know the locations of terrorists activities in this country . So why should they be misleading g other parts of the world on non existent issue and false information”, he rhetorically asked with concerns.
“No doubt there are little differences from time to that are not beyond our capacity to correct and forge ahead.
“We should also be bold to tell ourselves the home truth in our efforts at working hard to keep the country united”, he said.
Sultan Sa’ad who is also NIREC Co- Chair reflected on why terrorism kept tracking for over 15 years especially in the north.
He noted that the attackers were leveraging on soft targets by selecting communities inorder to send wrong signals and collect Ransome against certain communities or parts of the country.
“We have to collectively reflect on that and ask ourselves questions on its consistent occurrence especially insurgency and banditry and how to overcome them”, he called.
While urging Nigerians to remain steadfast and committed to one indivisible country, the religious monarch reminded citizens that God created all in different tribes, complexion, religious and cultural background and ordained we should live together.
” If today, we can live together peacefully in Sokoto without harassing anyone for practicing his or her religious rights, it shows we are in peace. Let us all share our minds and thoughts on issues for resolution .
” We don’t have to seat back and watch government alone do things that border on majority of Nigerians without extending our support to brace situations for our unity”, he stressed.
