An elder statesman, and one of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Elder Wole Oyelese on Tuesday, called on PDP members to remain steadfast and committed to rebuilding the party.

Elder Oyelese in a statement made available to journalists, declared that PDP as a political party, “is currently undergoing a trying phase.”

The former Minister of Power and Steel maintained that such moments are not new in politics and can be overcome through patience, internal reforms, and renewed commitment to shared ideals.

“Don’t abandon the house we contributed to build. Politics goes through seasons of trials and renewal”, he said.

Elder Oyelese added, ” What we are facing today is not unprecedented, it is a phase that will surely pass. It is always darkest before the glorious dawn.

” Grievances are inevitable, and the issues of leaders relegated and unrecognized in the party congresses can still be addressed and corrected”.

According to the Elder statesman, many of the grievances expressed by members stem from the fallout of the last PDP congresses, which many perceived as lacking inclusiveness and internal democracy.

The former Minister urged all PDP members to remain within the fold, assuring that the party has the internal capacity to correct its course and restore unity.

“It’s not good to abandon the house because of a leaking roof; when challenges arise, we rebuild, remodel, and reinforce. We have laboured to build this house together; we must not allow internal cracks to destroy it.”

Describing the current crisis in PDP as a defining test of leadership, he said there is the need for decisive intervention to mend divisions within the party.

“Where there are grievances, the Governor should quickly move in and address the issues, to make every member of the party feel relevant and wanted”.

While stressing that politics thrives on inclusion and numbers,he cautioned that the continuing disaffection among stakeholders could weaken the party’s base if not urgently addressed.

Elder Oyelese reaffirmed his belief in the resilience of the PDP and its capacity to bounce back stronger if unity, justice, and inclusion are restored.

“The PDP remains the only platform with the structure, experience, and grassroots appeal to secure the confidence of Oyo State people. Let us rebuild together. This moment too shall pass.”
