A Kaduna-based consultancy firm, Game Changers in collaboration with the Federal Government on Monday, flagged off vocational training programme for over 250 youth so they could be self-reliant and productive for growth and development of the society.

The programme, funded by World Bank under the Ideas Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education would train and equip youth, cutting across different religious, political and social class on hairstyling, make-up artistry and nail care skills among others, according to Chief Executive Officer Game Changers Consult, Ephraim kyari.

Participants for the three-month programme were selected via an online registration portal accessible to members of the public.

In his remarks, Kyari said the firm has been assigned 250 slots to train youth on rudiments and basic skills for beauty therapy and cosmetology in line with Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government to create jobs and empower Nigerian teeming youth population so they could be employable and self-reliant.

Explaining further, he said the training would last for a period of three months after which trainees would be qualified to go on a three-month internship, adding that certificates with global standard would thereafter, be awarded to beneficiaries to enable participants secure jobs anywhere in the world.

“We have a signed contract with Federal Government under Ideas Project being financed by the World Bank to empower the youth between the ages of 15 and 35 with vocational skills.

“We are here today to flag off the training with various stakeholders, trainers and of course the trainees to put them through the orientation and all that will be expected of them during the period of the programme.

“Staff of the Ideas Project were here to represent the National Project Coordinator and the Federal Ministry of Education for the flag off ceremony.

“Our environmental safety, gender-based violence and social-safeguard officers as well as specialists from National Board for Technical Education( NBTE) and other relevant regulatory bodies have all been mobilized and included to ensure qualitative and certified training for the youth.

“We have certified professionals in place who will train these youths, mostly women on the skills of beauty therapy and all that it entails so that they could erk a living from this career in order to take care of their needs and those of their family members.

“As we kickstart the training programme with a lecture session from resource persons to acquaint the trainees on ethics of the profession, discipline and skills required to own and manage a business of this magnitude after they would have completed their training.

“We will commence the training proper tomorrow in a conducive atmosphere and well equipped facility, manned by certified hands on such field of human endeavor.

“I want to use this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education, the World Bank and other development partners for finding us worthy of this programme which will go a long way in alleviating poverty and empowering our youth to be self-reliant and productive.

“We shall continue to roll this program and absorb as many youth as possible, particularly women who are believed to be the bedrock of the society.

“The curriculum has been developed in line with the National Occupational Standard(NOS) Level two on three skills; hairstyling, make-up artistry and nailcare,”he stated.

Kyari disclosed that a monthly stipend would be given to trainees and followed by starter-packs for each beneficiary after the period of training.
