The Provost of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo Prof Benedict Mbam has said that  the college has advanced a new height under his administration as twenty one programmes have been accredited and staff have started  enrolling into their PhD programmes as more than  one hundred staff have undergone their courses under the intervention programme.

Prof Mbam made this known while receiving the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education led by Barr Aloysius Nwodo who  paid him an oversight function visit recently.

He said that the college runs NCE and Degree Programmes with affiliations into the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) adding that since 2019 he assumed office, he has been working hard to increase the total number of students enrolled into the college as the Institution is  having a great number of qualified teachers.

The provost highlighted  areas where development have taken place to include the organization of convocation ceremonies and awards of certificates  for graduating students, the construction of an ICT Center with not less than 200 computer units , the construction of a story building girls hostels’ housing 36 apartments and another two story building for the principal officers called the academic complex.

For security purposes and safeguard against the vandalization of the solar lights and other valuables in the college, a perimeter fence was built and various seminars and conferences were equally sponsored both nationally and Internationally.

Prof Benedict Mbam however,  maintained that it was not all through rossy as some challenges are still facing the college, Among such challenges is low students enrollment, low funding of the college, lack of mobility for principal officers and more staff are needed to be employed.

He appreciated the House Committee on Education for the visit and promised to continue in the way he was met but solicited for more supports.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee and member representing Ebonyi North West Constituency, Barr Aloysius Nwodo said that the aim of the visit was to know the operational level at the college which include the progress and challenges.

He  further told the Provost that the committee was at the college to make things happen positively and that the Provost and staff should feel free about the visit, adding that the committee is poised to ensure educational advancements of the state Governor, Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru under his Peoples’ Charter of Needs  programme and implored them to open up on all areas of their needs.

The House Committee Chairman commended the Provost Prof Benedict Mbam for his administrative ingenuity that has brought the visible developments to the college.

Also Contributing, the Deputy Chiefwhip of the House, Arinze Lucas Chukwu,  Obinna Mbam representing Izzi East Constituency, and Victor Nwoke representing Abakaliki North,  stressed the need to fashion out ways of increasing the students enrollment into the college and lauded the State Governor for his pragmatic ways of enhancing educational development in the state.

In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of the College Mr  Emmanuel Akpukwa eulogized the committee for the visit which he said was needful and timely.
