Benue State Police Command has said that operatives of Operation Zenda, a joint security task force on surveillance patrol in Gboko Local Government Area, arrested an armed robbery suspect with arms.
According to the Police Command, the operatives acted on credible information received that a gang of armed robbers were in a hideout at Gboko East, planning to attack some designated areas.
Working on the information, the joint security team swiftly stormed the hideout and arrested one suspect, Liambe Orpine ‘m’ 35 years, of Anvambe, Buruku LGA, while other members of the gang fled upon sighting the police.
Exhibits recovered from the hideout include; one (1) “AK-47 Rifle, one (1) jack knife and three (3) locally fabricated dane guns.
The Benue State Police Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Udeme Edet, in a statement in Makurdi, said that the suspect is presently in Police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing other gang members.
The case, she further said, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for investigation.
According to the PPRO, Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, PhD., commends the gallantry of Operation Zenda JTF operatives and reassures the good people of Benue State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the State of criminal elements.
The command enjoined members of the public to provide timely and useful information to the Police when need arises as the security agencies cannot succeed without the total cooperation and support of all.
