In a remarkable display of compassion and solidarity, Adamawa-born philanthropist and business tycoon, Chief Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, has brought hope to flood-ravaged communities in Yola South, Girei, and Demsa local government areas of Adamawa State, leading a distinguished entourage of prominent sons and daughters of the state, Chief Vunobolki visited the hard-hit community of Bole in Yolde Pate, Yola South, to deliver substantial relief materials and heartfelt condolences to victims of the recent devastating, which claimed at least 23 lives and destroyed properties worth billions of Naira.

The catastrophic flooding, triggered by torrential rainfall that began on Sunday, July 27, 2025, submerged homes, farmlands, and businesses, displacing over 5,560 residents and leaving 11 others missing, according to the National Management Agency (NEMA).

The disaster, described as one of the worst in recent years, prompted an outpouring of grief and urgent calls for support across the state. Stepping into this breach, Chief Vunobolki’s timely intervention has been hailed as a beacon of hope for the affected communities.

During his visit to Bole, Chief Vunobolki presented a substantial donation to the flood victims, including 100 bags of maize, 20 bags of rice, 20 bags of beans, 50 cartons of noodles, and a cash donation of ₦1 million. The relief materials are intended to provide immediate sustenance and support to families grappling with the loss of homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. The cash donation, in particular, offers a lifeline for victims to rebuild their lives amidst the widespread destruction.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Vunobolki expressed profound sympathy for the affected families, consoling those who lost relatives in the tragedy. “My heart aches for the families who have suffered unimaginable loss,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

“We pray for the eternal rest of the departed and for strength for those left behind to carry on.” His words resonated deeply with the crowd, many of whom were visibly moved by his empathy and generosity.

Chief Vunobolki also took the opportunity to commend Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his swift and proactive response to the crisis. Governor Fintiri, who visited the affected areas shortly after arriving in Yola on July 28, 2025, has been lauded for his hands-on approach, including setting up a technical committee in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and NEMA to assess the damage and investigate the root causes of the flooding.

“The assurance given by His Excellency, Governor Fintiri, is a good omen for all those affected,” Chief Vunobolki stated. “His commitment to uncovering the causes of this disaster and ensuring it does not recur is a testament to his dedication to the people of Adamawa. We stand with him in this fight to protect our communities.” He urged residents to find solace in their faith and trust in the government’s efforts to provide lasting solutions.

Accompanying Chief Vunobolki was his close friend and fellow philanthropist, Salihu Mohammed (Abba Girei), who also made a significant cash donation of ₦1 million to the victims. Abba Girei echoed Vunobolki’s sentiments, offering words of comfort and faith. “God is all-knowing and tests our resilience,” he said. “We know things will turn out for the better, and we pray this tragedy becomes a turning point for good.” His donation further bolstered the relief efforts, reinforcing the spirit of communal support.

The delegation’s visit was met with gratitude and admiration from community leaders. Abubakar Ahmadu, a prominent community leader, described Chief Vunobolki’s gesture as unprecedented. “We have never seen this kind of support,” he said.

“Chief Vunobolki is the first to extend such a generous hand to our people in this time of need. His actions have given us hope and shown us that we are not alone.” Ahmadu also praised Governor Fintiri for his tireless efforts, noting that the state government’s rapid response has been a source of comfort.

Abdulmumuni Abubakar, the Mai Jimilla, expressed similar sentiments, thanking Chief Vunobolki for his kindness and urging those tasked with distributing the relief materials to ensure fairness and transparency. “This donation must reach every victim equally,” he emphasized, highlighting the importance of equitable aid distribution to maximize its impact.

The Yola flood disaster, which began on July 27, 2025, has drawn national attention, with President Bola Tinubu directing NEMA and the National Emergency Response Centre to collaborate with Adamawa and Niger State authorities for comprehensive rescue and relief operations.

The flooding, attributed to climate change and exacerbated by local factors such as poor drainage systems, has underscored the urgent need for sustainable infrastructure and disaster preparedness.

In addition to Chief Vunobolki’s contributions, other stakeholders have stepped up. The Bayelsa State Government donated ₦100 million to support Adamawa’s relief efforts, a gesture Governor Douye Diri described as a show of solidarity from a state familiar with flooding’s devastation.

Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and APC North-East Vice Chairman, Mustapha Salihu, spearheaded the distribution of relief materials to 700 families across seven communities in Yola South, with additional cash contributions from APC stakeholders.

Chief Dr. Maurice Vunobolki’s visit and donations have not only provided immediate relief but also inspired a renewed sense of unity and resilience among the people of Adamawa. His actions, coupled with the state government’s proactive measures, have set a powerful example of leadership and compassion in the face of adversity. As the affected communities begin the long journey of recovery, the collective efforts of individuals like Chief Vunobolki, Abba Girei, and Governor Fintiri offer a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.

The people of Yola South, Girei, and Demsa now look to the future, bolstered by the support of their leaders and the promise of a thorough investigation to prevent such disasters from recurring. As Chief Vunobolki aptly stated, “Together, we will rise above this challenge, stronger and more united than ever.”

Recall that few weeks ago Maurice visited Garkida, a superb community of Gombi Local Government area and Donated relief materials too.
