Defection: Police Promises Tight  Security As  Tinubu Welcomes Gov Umo Eno Into APC On Saturday

As President Bola Tinubu will visit Akwa Ibom State to formally welcome the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on  Saturday,  Police command in the state has warned criminals to steer clear of the grand reception.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare gave the warning on Thursday in Uyo,  during a press conference on the arrangements of  the event billed to hold at Godswil Akpabio international stadium this Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital city.

According to CP Azare, the police command in synergy with sister security agencies are combatant ready to ensure the protection of all including visitors coming to the state for the reception.

“In another development, on Saturday June 21, 2025, we will have a lot of visitors coming in for the reception of Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, who has moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC). 

“The Command is fully prepared along side all sister security agencies to ensure hitch free occasion.

“This message is to would be or intended criminals, who want to use the opportunity to perpetrate any form of crime during this occasion to desist from doing that, because we are fully prepared.

“We are going to use the total number of personnel in the command to make sure Akwa Ibom remained safe and the visitors come and go hitch free,” Azare said.

It would be recalled that Governor Umo Eno on June 6 progressively moved from PDP to APC on some political reasons.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information the state, Mr Aniekan Umanah in a press release stated that 

all is set for the grand reception.

Umanah explained that Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, would on the occasion, formally receive Governor Umo Eno and his team into the party, following an official presentation by the Akwa Ibom State APC Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo.

The event according to the release would be graced by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will officially welcome Governor Eno into the progressive fold.

Also expected is the Chief host and President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio GCON whose presence will further underscore the spirit of unity and political alignment between Akwa Ibom State and the Federal Government. 

“This moment marks a significant milestone in fostering collaboration for the progress and prosperity of the State.” He stated.

Other dignitaries expected include members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the APC National Working Committee, senior party chieftains, and key political stakeholders from across the country.
