Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with Operation Delta Sweep, have gunned down two suspected kidnappers during a shootout in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area.
The operation took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, after intelligence revealed that some kidnappers were sighted around the Nniogbo Owa-Ekei axis.
According to police sources, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owa-Oyibu quickly mobilized a joint team of policemen, vigilantes, and two Delta Sweep squads to the area.
On arrival, the suspects opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle. The security team overpowered them, leaving two suspects with fatal gunshot wounds.
The injured suspects were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two magazines.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the operation, said efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
He described the success as another major step in the command’s fight against kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
