It was Ikwo Local Government Council that played host to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and EBSIEC Matters on Thursday, where the chairman of the Committee, Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam highlighted the importance of the committee’s visit and the need for complementing the efforts of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in completely developing Ebonyi State in all sectors.
Hon Obinna Mbam while inspecting projects embarked by the Ikwo Council Chairman, maintained that capital projects remain paramount to the present administration and as such all the chairmen of Local governments in Ebonyi State should strive to step down signature projects in their area.
The Committee Chairman commended the Ikwo Council Chairman Barr Sunday Nwankwo for cleanliness of the secretariat environment and inspected some projects which included, Council Hall reconstruction, procured 5ookv transformer for FUNI, Community, solar street lights and electrification projects .
The Committee Chairman extolled the harmonious working relationship among the workers, legislators and stakeholders and encouraged them to continue promoting peace and unity.
Other members of the Committee the Chiefwhip of the House, Hon Nkemka Okoro Onuma, Hon Ifeanyi Nwakpu representing Ikwo North, the Deputy Leader, Hon Joseph Ununu, Hon Aloysius Nwodo and Hon Victor Nwoke, said the committee was at Ikwo Local Government Area to make things happen positively and urged the council chairman to brief the committee on the activities of the council including inflow and outflow, projects executed ,and educational advancement in the area.
Responding, the Chairman Ikwo Local Government Area Hon Barr Sunday Nwankwo lauded the Committee for the visit and State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for making the councils in Ebonyi State viable adding that the oversight function visists was a right step in a right direction as it strengthens the charter of needs programme of the State Governor.
While conducting the Committee Members round the projects he had executed , Hon Sunday Nwankwo said the projects include reconstruction of council Hall, erosion control, procurement of transformers and electrification of Ikwo General Hospital, ongoing Construction of Ndioduma–Ugbodo 2km road, Echialike, rehabilitation of four health centres, provision of solar street lights, sinking of boreholes, establishment of palm plantations in 124 primary and Junior secondary schools among others.
Hon Barr Sunday Nwankwo assured that he would continue to execute meaningful projects that will have a direct impact on the people to cue into the people’s charter of needs agenda of state government.
