United Ex-Super Falcons (Worldwide), the umbrella body of retired national women’s team players has hailed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the quick payment of the thirty per cent (30%) of the one million Dollars ($1 million) (approximately ₦1.5 billion) prize money for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco last July.
The group spoke through their interim chairperson, Patience Avre-Odeli.
In a statement issued on behalf of the group recently from her United States-base, Avre-Odeli applauded the current NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for prompt payment of the agreed percentage from the prize money remitted to the federation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) barely one month after the Super Falcons won the 10th WAFCON title by defeating host nation, Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
She further stated: “We, the members of United Ex-Super Falcons (Worldwide), are very happy with the present leadership of NFF for promptly paying the 10th WAFCON title-winning team in a record time. “This is a step in the right direction and a trend we would like to continue in the years ahead.”
The former Super Falcons attacker who won two WAFCON titles in her active years urged the Gusau-led NFF Executive Committee to sustain the current tempo of paying the Super Falcons as at and when due, pointing out that this is the best way to maintain harmony in the team.
The former Princess Jegede Babes, Lagos and Ufuoma Babes FC of Warri attacker, whose generation was the first Super Falcons team to win the WAFCON trophy in 1998 and also qualify Nigeria for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in UnitedStatesin1999, said although it was unfortunate that the past NFF leadership and federal government failed to compensate them during their time, they are happy with the huge financial rewards the present generation of Super Falcons are receiving from the Federation, Government and corporate bodies
