Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria has organized a one day capacity building workshop for twenty five Community Advocates on Transitional Justice (CATJ) in Bama, Headquarters of Bama LGA of Borno State on Sunday at Soye/Shettimari Primary School, Old Bama UBE, Bama.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin in her welcome address said the purpose of the training is to strengthen the capacities and will of the stakeholders for Survivors-Centered, Gender Inclusive Transitional Justice and Reconciliation in support of the Borno Model of the DDDRRR programme.

She added that the programme is being implemented by Allamin’ Foundation for Peace and Development with support from Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)/Integrated Security Fund (ISF) Ukaid.

According to her, the training of the CATJ Members would be on Community Engagement steps and Strategies, Traditional Justice
Principles, Human Rights, Community-Based Reconciliation and Reintegration Strategies.

Hajiya Hamsatu noted also that the selected 25 participants/members of the Community Advocates for Transitional Justice [CATJ]) were drawn from five wards in Bama town, namely, Mairi, Hausari [Under Old Bama District], Gomari, Tandari and Shehuri/Waziriri [Under New Bama District].

She further explained that the participants comprised of three males,and two females from each of the five wards, making up twenty-five participants
in all [15 males and 10 females 25]. And would be two
Facilitators for the training, namely, Sheikh Ali Ibrahim Mustapha [ Service Provider I] and Dr. Mohammed Abdullahi (Service Provider II from University of Maiduguri).

The Executive Director maintained that the 25 participants are expected in turn to return to their wards and retrain 80 different persons by educating, enlightening , educating , counseling and guiding them to understand and embrace peace, reconciliation and reintegration for peaceful and development of the community.

The first Facilitator , Sheikh Aliyu Ibrahim Mustapha emphasized on the training aims which is to enlighten the participants on the principles of Transitional Justice, Human Rights, Reconciliation and Reintegration Strategies for them to extend the same
to people in their respective communities, for a lasting peace and societal development as a result of the over a decade insurgency.

He extensively spoke on peace, unity, love, peaceful coexistence, affection, understanding, forgiveness, reconciliation and harmonious relationship between one another, groups, communities and obedience as well as loyalty to constituted authorities , law and order by the people in the society which is Islam and expected of Muslims who believe in God and His Messenger , Muhammad (SAW)

Sheikh Mustapha preached the gospel also on the good practices of Islam and how the Messenger of God demonstrated to the Muslim Ummah peace, love, unity and peaceful coexistence, social interaction, good practices, obedience, loyalty, honesty, transparency and accountability apart responsiveness in ones affairs and conduct.

He also elaborated on morale conduct, fear of God, deeds and misdeeds, doctrines and injunctions of the religion of Islam while citing the ways and manners the companions of His Messenger lived a good and exemplary life from the lessons and teachings of Muhammad ( SAW) .

Mustapha cited Quran verses and Hadiths of Muslim, Bukhari, Malik and others on how to Muslims should live with one another, carry out business activities, relate with people, care or cater for parents, family, neighbours , community and constituted authorities or leaders (livelihood).

He also tutored on sharia laws , crimes, sins and offences that are punishable and consequences in this world and hereafter, cautions , hell fire and rewards in heaven urging people to live in peace, love and unity with one another in trust with all honesty and fear of God as well embrace peace for meaningful development and peaceful coexistence in the society.

While the second Facilitator Dr. Mohammed Abdullahi presented PowerPoint lecture on understanding transitional Justice, goals, pillars , . principles of transitional Justice, and community engagement strategies, trust, victims and survivors centered approach, issues, reparation, compensation, peaceful coexistence, reconciliation and reintegration as well.as gender inclusive initiatives, early morning warning and peace education.

He also spoke on truth seeking,, cause of the matter, isolation, recognition, Justice, acceptance, issues,/challenges and the need for reconciliation, accountability, advocacy roles, peace, support and facilitation of safety, forgiveness, dialogue mobilization, action plan confidence building, outreach among stakeholders and other community leaders across individuals and groups as well as communities.

Dr. Abdullahi suggested for trauma-informed and conflict -sensitive practices community participation, all strata of the community, review of methods and procedures of approaches, sustainability of the programme including victims centered approach, sensitivity context and gender justice towards peaceful coexistence, reconciliation and reintegration.
