Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), in collaboration with Church & Society and the Women and Girls Health Empowerment Network, on Sunday, honoured Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, with the Peace Champion of Unity in Diversity Award in recognition of his strides in fostering inclusiveness and reconciliation across the state.

The award presentation took place at Arewa House, Kaduna, during activities marking the 2025 International Day of Peace with the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”

Governor Sani, in his remarks, described peace as a practical necessity for development, justice, and human dignity, stressing that no society can progress in the absence of harmony and trust.

Represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, he said the Kaduna Peace Model, being showcased at the event, was built on inclusiveness, justice, and shared responsibility.

“Here in Kaduna, we have chosen dialogue over division, collaboration over confrontation, and reconciliation over recrimination. Every citizen has a role to play in sustaining peace. Let us teach our children the value of peace and use our places of worship to spread messages of love and unity,” the governor stated.

He explained that the peace model places communities at the centre of peacebuilding by bringing together traditional and religious leaders, civil society groups, women and youth, security agencies, and development partners to heal wounds and foster coexistence.

Earlier, the Country Director of GPFN, Rev. (Dr.) Joseph John Hayab, commended the governor’s inclusive governance style, which he said had doused tensions, reduced insecurity, and restored confidence in the state since 2023.

“At a time when Kaduna was faced with ethnic feuds, kidnapping, banditry, and heightened tension, His Excellency embraced the path of dialogue and fairness. By giving every group and every faith a voice, he healed wounds and bridged divides that once threatened our progress,” Hayab said.

He noted that the Peace Champion Award was not just a plaque but a testament to the governor’s enduring legacy as a leader who prioritises justice, inclusivity, and unity in diversity.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners, and civil society groups, who lauded the Kaduna Peace Model as a beacon of hope for Nigeria and Africa.
