Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has dismissed as “false, mischievous, and irresponsible” a recent report ranking Kaduna among the states with the highest cases of kidnapping, insisting that his administration’s security reforms are yielding unprecedented results.

The governor, reacting to a publication by SB Morgen which alleged that 629 persons were abducted in Kaduna between July 2024 and June 2025, said the figures were “fabricated to undermine the success of the Kaduna Peace Model,” a homegrown security framework credited with restoring peace to several troubled communities across the state.

Governor Sani, through a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and signed by Commissioner-Designate Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said his administration’s relentless security strategy had reclaimed over 500,000 hectares of arable land once abandoned due to insecurity. He added that farmers had since returned to their farmlands, while livestock markets in Birnin Gwari and Giwa—closed for over a decade—had been reopened, boosting economic activities in the region.

“Our focus has been clear from day one: to secure every inch of Kaduna and return life to normalcy for our people,” the governor stated. “The SB Morgen report is a blatant attempt to discredit the tremendous sacrifices of our security agencies and the resilience of Kaduna citizens. The Kaduna Peace Model is working, and no amount of false propaganda will erase our achievements.”

Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s multi-pronged approach to security, which blends robust military operations, community engagement, socio-economic empowerment, and youth development programs aimed at addressing both the symptoms and root causes of insecurity.

Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu (SAN), Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, revealed that in April alone, 34 coordinated security operations led to the arrest of 54 high-profile suspects and the rescue of over 75 kidnap victims. He noted that multiple criminal hideouts have been destroyed, with prosecutions ongoing.

Highlighting the governor’s commitment to dialogue, Dr. Shuaibu pointed to the establishment of the Kaduna Peace Dialogue Group, a platform for reconciliation and reintegration of repentant bandits who voluntarily surrendered their weapons.

“The reopening of Kara livestock market in Birnin Gwari and the revival of agricultural production in areas once plagued by insecurity are evidence of the governor’s vision,” Dr. Shuaibu said.

Governor Sani called on the public to disregard the “purported kidnapping ranking” and instead focus on building resilience and consolidating gains in security.

“The safety and well-being of Kaduna residents remain our top priority,” he said. “We will not relent until every citizen feels safe, every farmer is back on their land, and every market thrives again. This is the Kaduna Peace Model in action.”
