The Kogi State Vigilante Services has announced the killing of person and the abduction of three passengers of an 18-seater Toyota bus at Aku village on Okene/Lokoja Federal highway in Adavi Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The incident was said to have taken place on Monday, between 15:00 to 15:15 hours.

This was contained in statement issued on Monday by the Controller-General, Kogi State Vigilante Service, Ibrahim Omeiza Sani.

According to the statement, “some armed men, suspected to be Fulani bandits in military camouflage, attacked an 18-seater Toyota bus with registration number Benue DAP 325 LG.

“In a swift response, the KSVS Osara Command and six (6) brave local hunters, engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.”

He said, ” Although the suspects escaped into the forest with three (3) kidnapped passengers, the bus driver and three (3) others were rescued from the scene.

The statement added that during the fracas, an unlucky bystander was lethally hit by a stray bullet and gave up the ghost.

He promised that the state Vigilante Service is unrelenting in intelligent information gathering that could culminate in tracking fleeing kidnappers for a possible crackdown and release of the victims.

While commending the gallantry of his men and the hunters, lauded the state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododol for his unwavering commitment to prioritise security across all nooks and crannies of the state.

The CG also extolled Jerry Omodara, the State Security Adviser for his efforts and continual identification with KSVS in the overall resolve to ensure a safer Kogi State.

Meanwhile, he directed his personnel to redouble efforts and pursue all criminal elements, including kidnappers to apprehend and bring them to face the weight of the law.

The vigilante boss once again reiterated his unalloyed commitment to collaborate with all other security agencies in the state towards curtailing insecurity to the barest minimum.

He admonished members of the public to remain security conscious, vigilant and report all suspicious activities and movements to law enforcement agencies.

It would be recalled that the District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, David Akpa, who was abducted on September 1, 2025, has regained his freedom.
