In line with its humanitarian service disposition to the society, Region 9 of the Nigeria Lions Club International, has donated scores of hospital bed linen to the Aba General Hospital in Abia State, South East Nigeria.
The gesture according to the organization, was carried out under the organization’s “Dress a Bed” project in hospitals.
Our correspondent reports that Region 9 is made up of all the five states of the South- East geo political zone of Nigeria.
Speaking during the inauguration of the project in the hospital, the District Governor of 404A2 Nigeria Lions Club International, Elder Ezekiel Umoh, applauded Region 9 members for the gesture, describing the project as laudable.
He noted that the project is aimed at ensuring cleanliness of beds in hospitals.
Lion Umoh, also stressed the need for hospital patients to be provided with beds that are covered with clean bedsheets at all times.
He said: “Region 9 has made me proud with this project which is in line with Lions Club spirit of impacting positively on humanity. And I urge you to continue with projects that are impactful like this”he stated.
Earlier in her remarks, Chairperson of Region 9, Lion Vivian Chioma Agubosim, said that she was spured by the theme of the District Governor” Arise and serve with passion, hence her Region came up with “Arise Lions, let’s dress a bed”, emphasizing the urgent need for dressing beds in some hospitals in the region.
Lion Agubosim who handed over no fewer than 100 quality bed covers to the hospital, disclosed that the project will be carried out in the entire zones that makes up Region 9.
In her speech, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Mrs Amaka Kamalu, expressed appreciation to members of the humanitarian body for the loved shown to the tertiary medical institution, assuring them that the items will be put to proper use.
According to the hospital boss, “this project came at the right time as we are already in the rainy season when bedsheets are greatly needed as the weather would not allow some washed ones to get dried up for usage.”
In his comment, the past Regional Chairman, Mr. Ebis Ekeh hailed the District Governor, Lion Umoh for carrying out his first official function and visit at Region 9, urging him to endeavour to always carry the Region along in all his programmes.
Highpoint of the colourful event was the dressing of hospital beds with the donated linens by the District governor and other leaders of the organization, such as presidents of the clubs under Region 9 and Lion members.
Shortly at the end of the hospital presentation, there was a training for members of the group, just as the regional chairperson position was officially handed over to the incumbent, Lion Jacinta Nworie represented by Lion Ebis Eke.
