A Human Rights Activist, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu Shinkafi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to as a matter urgency to constitute a state of emergency in Zamfara State.

He stated, “The reality on ground is that in Zamfara state, killings of farmers have become the order of the day and it is being done on a daily basis. About 38 farmers were slaughtered by the bandits after about 60 of them were in captivity for about four months.”

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday evening in Kaduna, Shinkafi, who is also the National President of African Youth and Conflict Resolution said if state of emergency could be enforced in Rivers State as a result of political differences, the case of Zamfara state involves lives of innocent farmers who are being killed everyday following the activities of bandits.

According to him, “From all indications, the state governor has failed and lacks the know how to handle the situation in order to curb the security challenges in the state. Prior to his election, he promised to wipe out insecurity in the state within two weeks on assumption of office but after two years, insecurity is becoming uncontrollable.”

He alleged that the governor has not done a proper home work by collaborating with the federal government on how to map out strategies to bring an end to the incessant killings and abduction of people in the state.

Shinkafi observed that the governor has also failed to cooperate with stakeholders to proffer tangible solutions to the menace that has befallen the people in the state for so many years without finding a way out of the problem.

According to him, “The governor is not doing enough to address the killings in the state and to adhere to stakeholders’ advised on how best to handle the situation. Everybody wants the security challenges in the state to be addressed so that people can go about their normal businesses in order to enhance the living standards of living of the people.”

He assured that all human rights activists will soon meet to take action on what is going on in Zamfara State with a view to restoring sanity in the state.
