Insecurity:  Restructure Nigeria  Now,  Afenifere Demands

*Says current situation cannot be quelled by force of arms alone

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere on Thursday,  expressed worries at the current situation of insecurity in Yorubaland and in some other parts of Nigeria.

Afenifere in a communique issued at the end of an expanded Executive committee meeting in Akure, said,  ” a lot still needed to be done to make the desired objectives on security to be achieved”.

In the communique signed by the Afenifere National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi noted that considering the insecurity in the country, ” the time for Restructuring is now.

.

” Afenifere takes note of various efforts of the governments to combat the increasing security situation in the country. The organization feels that much as the security agencies are trying their best, a lot still needed to be done to make the desired objectives on security to be achieved”, it said.

Afenifere added, “While commending the efforts of the  military and other security agencies, Afenifere is of the strong opinion that the current situation cannot be quelled by force of arms alone.There is the need for strong policies on truth, justice and a determination to ensure that no set of people constitute danger or threat to other people.

“As we, Afenifere, have repeatedly advocated, Restructuring the country is capable of resolving socio-political and socio-economic challenges of the country”.

It stressed,  “For this reason, we strongly believe that the time for Restructuring is now. As such, we call on the Presidency to send a Bill to the National Assembly for Restructuring the country now”.

On state police, the Pan Yoruba organization said, ” State Police  must be established without further delay”, adding, ” In this respect, Afenifere calls on President Bola Tinubu to forward an Executive Bill to the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the establishment of State police  in line with his pronouncement that says that State Police is now a necessity”.

While calling on President Tinubu ” to use his authority to ensure that the process that will lead to the  actualization of state police get done immediately”, Afenifere said .

“Modern technology  equipment be procured and adroitly deployed. Some of these are drones, close circuit cameras etc”.

” An expanded meeting of the Executive Committee of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere,  met in the Akure-home of the Leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR.After the blessing by the Leader, Pa Fasoranti, the meeting began in earnest with the Executive Committee Chairman, Oba Olu Falae, presiding.

“As usual, the meeting deliberated on issues pertaining to the Yorubas and Nigeria.Of particular concern is the current situation of insecurity in Yorubaland and in some other parts of Nigeria”.
