The Kaduna State Government (KDSG) has assured residents of Zaria and surrounding communities of its commitment to safeguarding the city’s only major power backup infrastructure, following reports of a proposed relocation of the 40MVA transformer stationed in the area.

In a statement signed by Engr. Idris Aminu Idris, Managing Director of Kaduna Power Supply Company, the government acknowledged receipt of a petition from concerned citizens regarding the issue, noting that their concerns were being treated with utmost urgency.

“The Kaduna State Government understands the critical role this infrastructure plays in providing stable power to Zaria and its environs. We are committed to ensuring our citizens continue to have access to reliable electricity supply,” Idris said.

The government disclosed that it has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter and is engaging with key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Power, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

“Our goal is to ensure that any decision regarding this vital asset is made in the best interest of the people of Zaria,” the statement added.

Residents have been assured that KDSG will continue to prioritize energy infrastructure development across the state to enhance economic growth and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
