 Katsina State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on people of the state to trust Nigerian state, love the country and support democracy as a system of government that gives every citizens opportunity to participate in the nation’s helm of affairs.

Katsina State Director of the Agency, Malam Muntari Lawal Tsagem stated this at a Press Conference organized to commemorate the Democracy Day in Katsina where he enjoined citizens both leaders and followers to demonstrate sense of honesty, patriotism, tolerance, hardworking, shun corruption, greediness, rumor mongering and bigotry. 

Malam Lawal Tsagem reiterated the need for People to appreciate the achievements recorded by leaders as a way of encouragement to do more.noting that, “Communities should take the ownership of projects located in their areas by safeguarding them, instead of vandalizing them.”

He said the democracy day, June 12,2025 as public holiday slated to commemorate the democracy system of government in Nigeria was also a day on which Nigerians repeated their calls for good governance, effective representation in government, human and infrastructural development among others.

He charged politicians to put the nation’s and the masses at heart as the society battling with economic and security challenges.pointing out that,”There is a need for more commitments towards restoring peace and general welfare of the people.”

Malam Tsagem, however,appealed to students of tertiary institutions in the state to participate in the on-going National Campus Quiz Debate aimed to instill sense of patriotism, honesty and democratic culture in the minds of the younger generation.

He said NOA reintroduced the National Campus Debate initiative specifically designed to foster National Integration, promote critical thinking and amplify youth voices in public discourse.

The Debate which runs from May to October this year, he said would  followed a three-tier structure, state, zonal and national levels, concluding with a Grand Finale in Abuja.

He further enjoined all tertiary institutions in the state to motivate their students to contribute intellectually to national development through well articulated debate on issues that would positively impact on the “Psyche of the younger generation, and make them fully aware as agents of change and leaders of tomorrow who will spearhead national development and cohesion among various entities in the country.”

“The Students Union Governments should also mobilize the outstanding ones among them to represent their institutions in this high-level national competition. The union leaders should sensitize and ginger their members to partake in the competition as this will assist them to develop their creativity, boost their communication skills and ability to analyze complex topics from multiple perspectives.

NOA also appealed to parents to encourage their wards to participate in the debate,” Malam Tsagem said.

 According to him the National Campus Debate was part of government initiatives to boost the quality of tertiary education and to galvanize the students to put the love of the nation in their heart.

In Katsina State, the NOA Director said competition was timely as it comes at a time when the State Government was deploying means and strategies to restore and maintain the image of the state in the nation’s educational development.

Malam Muntari Lawal Tsagem called on the state government to support the campus debate initiative by ensuring students of the state tertiary institutions actively participate in the competition.

He named the tertiary institutions involved in the National Campus Debate as Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Umar Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), National Open University (NOUN) and Muhammadu Buhari University of Transportation Daura.

 Others he said,  includes:- Federal Polytechnic Daura, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Federal College of Education Katsina, Isa Kaita College of Education Dutsinma and Dr Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Study Daura. 

Malam Muntari Lawal Tsagem commended Federal and the Governments for their untiring efforts in improving the living condition of the citizens through executing projects and initiating life supporting programmes.
