Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu has received a delegation of a non – governmental organisation from International Rescue Committee (IRC), led by Mr. Iko Elam, on a courtesy visit to his office.

In his remarks, according to a Statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shehu Suleiman,  Mr. Elam briefed  CP Shehu on the IRC’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in the State which includes empowerment, health and nutrition initiatives, as well as community-based protection services.

Mr Elam said their main goal was to provide life-saving emergency interventions to communities affected by banditry in the North-West geopolitical zone.

The operations currently, he said, covers Batagarawa, Batsari, and Katsina Local Government Areas of the state and highlighted the IRC’s commitment to addressing gender-based violence.

He consequently, solicited for more collaboration and support of the command to ensure the effectiveness of their humanitarian programmes in the state.

Responding, the Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Bello Shehu expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the organization for extending its impactful interventions to the state.

CP Bello Shehu acknowledged the relevance of their programmes, particularly in communities severely affected by insecurity, and assured them of the Command’s full cooperation.

CP Bello Shehu reiterated his open door policy to positive collaboration that would advance the organisation’s mission.

 On the issue of gender-based violence, the Shehu informed the team on the ongoing efforts of the Command to address such cases through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), which has a dedicated unit responsible for handling gender-based violence and related offences.
