No fewer than 582 people suspected to be criminals were arrested and investigated by the Kogi State Police Command in about seven months in operations that cut across the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye in Lokoja recently during a press parley with the state Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Giving the breakdown of the categories of the crimes committed, the Police boss said that 157 of them accounted for kidnappings, 192 were arrested on account of robbery, 38 for unlawful possession of firearms while the list number of 28 cases were associated with culpable homicides.

Furthermore while about 168 cases accounted for undisclosed reasons, 7 suspects were arrested for rape,

CP Dantawaye consequently claimed that the command under his watch has dealt a heavy blow on crimes and criminalities stressing that the command has successfully dismantled the criminal architecture in the state and and has rescued kidnapped victims on many fronts.

More success was also recorded in the recovery of arms and ammunition which include 8 AK 47 rifles, 1 AK 49, 7 locally made pistols, 11 Dane guns, 407 rounds of live ammunition, 10 magazines, a Barrettta pistol, 7 live cartridges, one Sharon car and 2 Bajaj motorcycles.

The Commissioner pledged his unwavering commitment to strengthening existing police and media relations to foster a stronger working collaboration and enhance accurate reporting of police activities.

The CP commended the media for its role in shaping public perception of the Police and urged them to remain steadfast in their calling for a better society.

The Police boss call on media practitioners to often alert his command by reporting any suspicious activities and movements for prompt action saying that security is a collective responsibility of all.

In his remarks, the chairman of the correspondents’ chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr Segun Salami, commended the commissioner and assured him of a working relationship that will foster a stronger tie between the command and the media.
