The trending online video publication which is claiming that vandals have invaded a section of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway is misleading the public, the management of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced.
The rebuttal was made in a statement titled: “NRC Refutes Vandalisation of Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail Line, Assures of Rail Track Safety,” which was issued on 2nd August 2025.
NRC described the viral video as “misleading, old and issues resolved.”
In the statement, Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, wrote: “The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has observed with concern a report published on the internet by Sahara Reporters via its X-handle (formerly (Twitter) and replicated by several other platforms, which claimed that vandals have invaded a section of the $1.5 billion Lagos-Ibadan Railway project inaugurated by late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021, stealing major components.”
Unyimadu explained that the video referred to by the publications was an old incident. He emphasized that the incident did not occur on the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge railway.
He stated that the incidents happened between 7th and 27th August 2024 along the old narrow gauge line between KM 170 (Omi-Adio) and KM 240 (Erunmu) in Oyo State.
The NRC spokesman said that since the above-mentioned events occurred, “no further incident of vandalism has been reported along that axis.”
