The new sheriff of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu has assumed leadership of the Council following his swearing -in by Governor Olusola Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a colourful ceremony held at the Sport Pavilion Ground, Alausa, Ikeja on Sunday.

He was among the 20 Local Government Council Chairmen and 37 Chairmen of Local Council Development Areas elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the Local Government Election held on Saturday, 12th July 2025 across the State.

In a chat with journalists shortly after the ceremony, Hon. assured residents of people oriented programme that will engender great transformation, even as he vowed stringent measures to tackle the menace of crime and insecurity.

Speaking on insecurity, Jimoh said he is going to continue where his predecessor stopped, but introduced stringent measures to tackle the menace of crime and criminality in the area.

His words, “I have a programme for the youth that will tackle employment. They include that for secondary school leavers and those in the senior secondary school class. Two, I have a programme for after school hour’s training, there is a specialized training job for secondary school leavers who have not gotten job, so that they will not be a waste.

“Am starting off a clean up programme of the environment shortly after the induction course by the Governor to be tagged operation make your environment clean.

“In the area of flood, we will need the services of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment to deflood channel 5 in my community, it has been troublesome on my community. For over a decade and half now, it has not been developed. They should please come up to help us clear it from Alafia junction to Coca-cola area in Ajegunle.

” Am going continue where she stopped. Am bringing in a harder force to tackle areas where I noticed some lapses on her part. During my campaigns, I warned against smoking of hard drugs, warned against violence, I said no to cultism and I ma going to implement it. I won’t tolerate the smoking of hard drugs because it energizes to commit evil things “.

Delivering a speech at the occasion, Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the new council helmsmen to let their tenure reflect leadership responsibility by providing the dividend of democracy to the residents.

Sanwo-Olu , who congratulated the newly sworn-in chairmen, urged them to work diligently towards the betterment of their respective communities.

“The people have placed their trust in you, and it is your responsibility to deliver on your promises and uplift the standard of living for all residents,” the governor remarked.

In his welcome address earlier, the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs and Community Development Hon. Bolaji Roberts congratulated the new council helmsmen on their victory at the polls, describing them as candidate of choice.

He noted that their victory at the polls is a testament of their grassroot acceptance and the confidence reposed in them by the people.

“The credibility of your mandate anchored on transparency and broad based support is what has culminated into the swearing -in ceremony”, he stressed.
