Makinde Can Contest 2027 Presidential Elections Under PDP – Chieftain

*Says Oyo has been PDP right from 2003

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Engr. Femi Babalola, ‘Jogor’ has said that Governor Seyi Makinde is qualified to be the PDP Presidential flag bearer in the 2027 Presidential election.

The PDP chieftain stated this on Tuesday during his visit to the Oyo State NUJ Press Centre in Ibadan to inspect a Mikano generator set he donated to Oyo NUJ few years ago.

According to Engr Babalola, Gov Makinde as a fresh breath with fresh ideas, has what it takes to contest as President if given the PDP ticket come 2027, adding, “fresh breath with fresh idea is what PDP as a political party needs”.

The PDP chieftain stressed that Gov Makinde can compete with the likes of former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and emerge as the flag bearer of the party in 2027 general elections.

“Governor Makinde has performed creditably well, though, there may be some deficiencies. Nobody in the world can score 100 percent in governance, I think he has done very well compare to past governors in the state,” he said

The PDP chieftain added, ” By 2027, Gov Makinde would have had eight years experience as governor which is an added advantage for the governor to contest head to head with other big wigs in the party”.

Commenting on the zoning of PDP of the 2027 Presidential ticket of the party to Southern part of the country, he said, “If the party felt that the game was to present a southern candidate, it’s good for us, I’m in full support of it, let it be south versus south, we have the strength in the North.”

On the governorship election in Oyo State come 2027, the PDP chieftain said , “I’m watching the aspirants that are coming out to show interest in contesting for the governorship position in Oyo State, if I’m not satisfied as a person with the caliber of the aspirants, I might be forced to contest in 2027.

“Though, contesting for governor in 2027 is not in my front burner, but I think the state deserves a governor that has deep knowledge of the state after governor Makinde’s tenure as governor of the state.

“I will not support a candidate taking advantage of the party, I will rather support candidate that are beneficial and fair to the party, because there are members of the party that have suffered with the party.

“Oyo State is a PDP state right from 2003, there has never be a time where the state is been ruled by a party without connivance from PDP members.”
