In a significant stride towards digital empowerment and inclusive development, the Media and Disability Care Initiative (MEDCI) held a free ICT training and licensed software distribution programme on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
The initiative targeted young computer and mobile phone technicians, including persons with disabilities, reaffirming MEDCI’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive opportunities.
The programme which took place at the organization’s office in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, was spearheaded by Iliyasu Zanna, Head of ICT at MEDCI, who led the training session and facilitated the distribution of fully licensed computer and mobile phone software tools.
Participants gained not only technical knowledge, but also access to genuine resources to enhance their work and businesses.
During the event, Zanna emphasized the importance of digital tools in today’s economy, highlighting the need for inclusive access to such opportunities. “This is more than just software,” he stated. “It’s about empowering youths, especially those living with disabilities, to thrive in the digital age. We’re ensuring they’re not left behind.”
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the rare opportunity, noting that the combination of professional training and access to legal, licensed tools would significantly boost their productivity and credibility as technicians.
A visually impaired mobile phone technician, Mohammed Ibrahim who participated in the event, shared his thoughts: “This is the first time I’ve received genuine software without having to pay a fortune. This gesture gives me confidence and strengthens my business.”
The programme aligns with MEDCI’s broader mission of empowering marginalized communities through education, digital access, and social support. As an NGO, MEDCI continues to stand out as a beacon of innovation and inclusion, particularly in underserved regions.
