Following elections at its State Delegates Conference, Comrade Sheyin Nuhu Wakili became the new Chairman of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) Kaduna State Council.
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) is a trade union representing utilities workers in Nigeria and was founded in 1977 as the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, when the Government of Nigeria merged six unions: E. S. Company African Workers’ Union.
During conference held on Tuesday in Kaduna, only major top key positions which include office of the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer were contested, while other key offices remain unopposed and marked the transfer of leadership within the union.
While delivering his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Comrade Sheyin Nuhu Wakili expressed gratitude to God Almighty and members of the union for the successful victory while having a peaceful election.
Comrade Sheyin Wakili explained that one thing they have been fighting in the state council is unity, while NUEE is the only hope where they bare out their minds to the management and bring out their struggles.
He said, “I want to tell you all that those who feel they have fallen, we don’t have people that have failed, we are all together, because this election is a win-win for all of us. Please come back together let’s join our faith and continue to see that we voice out the voices of our members.
“Let’s not forget we are not enemies to the management but partners in struggle, while we are working hand-in-hard with the management, we are expecting that all the management and TCN will listen to the voices of the workers and we will continue to make sure these voices are heard.”
Speaking in an interview, the zonal organizing secretary NUEE North West, Comrade Bukar Ayuba Barde, described the election as free, fair and transparent, despite the high tension among the delegates and contestants at the initial stage during the conference.
According to him, before the election, all efforts were made to get some of the contestants step down for others, but at it failed, which made it compulsory for them to conduct the election, especially for the key positions.
He said, “but seriously, I will say glory be to God because we have seen a hitch free and a rancour free election today, because it went smoothly without any problem and the results were announced while all the contestants accepted it the way it is.
“Election in NUEE is a family affair. If Mr. A got it, it’s the same thing to Mr. B because it was a total celebration and dancing among both all the contestants not minding who wins or loses, so all those that lose joined hands with those that won and there was celebration.
Comrade Bukar Ayuba Barde, urged the newly elected leaders to stand firm, remain focused and ensure that no external body penetrates them, especially now that they came at a time when the Kaduna Electric is facing challenges between the employers and employees.
