Ahead of the forth- coming U-15 National Youth Games (NYG), scheduled for Asaba, Delta State in September, 2025, the final of the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah Secondary Schools Games, has commenced with arrival and accreditation of athletes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Thursday for the sporting outing.
The exercise is designed to help the state discover budding sporting talents, who, will hopefully, blossom to represent the State in national and international championships.
A statement made available to sports writers in Enugu by the Director, Information, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Dan Onwuegbuna, said, “the finals of the Games, will hold from Thursday 6th to Sunday 10th August, 2025, at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Ogui Road, and at the Sports Council premises, at Nkpokiti Road, Independence Layout, Enugu”.
The state Commissioner for youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, according the him, has thanked, Governor Mbah, for approving the games, noting his unwavering commitment towards sports development in the state.
Onwuegbuna, quoted the Commissioner as pointing out that the games, which is a collaborative effort of his Ministry and Post Primary Schools Management Board ( PPSMB) was the culmination of the inter- secondary schools games at the local government areas in the six educational zones in the state.
He listed the zones to include, Enugu, Agbani, Awgu, Udi, Nsukka and Udenu, adding that the Games will feature, athletics, boxing, chess, basketball, volleyball football, table tennis, tennis and scrabble.
According to him, the Games will help the State select the best athletes for the forth- coming NYG, scheduled for Asaba, Delta State in September,2025.
