The Minister of Regional Development, Engr.
Abubakar Momoh has stated that work on the long abandoned Omadino-Okerenkoko-Escravos road project in Delta State is set to commence but only awaiting President Bola Tinubu approval as the memo to that effect is already before him.
He also revealed that the NDDC, Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited are set to partner in achieving the materialization of the project.
Engr. Momoh made these remarks at the official Commissioning of the Delta State office of the Commission at Airport Road, Warri at the Weekend, saying that the NDDC has ended tenancy payment for the past 25-years.
Speaking at the epoch making event, the Chairman of the seventh Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Chiedu Ebie stated that the Board worked as a team to realize the achievement of the commissioning of the edifice in compliance with President Bola Tinubu marching order to complete all abandoned legacy projects of the NDDC cross its mandate areas and appealed to Governor Oborevwori to partner with the Commission to realize the project.
He said with the Commissioning of the state office, access to NDDC operations have become more nearer to the people,easy, cheaper and less cumbersome.
In his address at the event, the Managing Director/CEO, NDDC, Chief Samuel Ogbuku revealed that it took the commission 13-years to complete the Delta State Office complex, stating that “it’s the second in a series of NDDC state offices to be completed even as they are set to commission more legacy projects in the coming dry season.
Engr. Ogbuku commended Governor Oborevwori for his monumental infrastructural development throughout the state, adding that the NDDC is open to partnership with relevant stakeholders like Delta, Bayelsa, Chevron and others for the meaningful development of the oil rich region.
Chief Ogbuku asserted that frequent changing of the board of the NDDC accounts for why there are abandoned projects but with the stability of the NDDC Board now and easy availability to funds ably facilitated by the National Assembly and all relevant organs of government, they are set fulfill their mandate as directed by Mr. President.
The Chief host of event, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in his brief address stated that he’s prepared to partner Chevron and the NDDC to pursue the Omadino-Okerenkoko-Escravos road project, saying that President Tinubu has empowered all state government with adequate funds and no state can complain of lack of funds for project execution anymore as he’s committed 100% to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
The Governor revealed that the state has committed #35.7 billion to the rehabilitation of 10km of the ever busy Sapele/Benin highway in collaboration with the Federal Government because it’s a Federal road but mainly plied by Deltans and other Nigerians with unfathomable hardship and suffering.
The highpoint of the event witnessed by eminent Deltans, traditional rulers and former NDDC bosses of Delta State origin and other Nigerians was the official Commissioning of the magnificent structure with state-of-the-art facilities by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
