Following the commencement of payment of gratuities backlog to over 4,000 local government retirees, which sparked joy and celebration among the retirees over the kind gesture.

According to the Executive Secretary of Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mr. Emeka Nwonu, Governor Francis Nwifuru approved over N10bn for the payment of the LGA retirees from 1996 to 2025 respectively.

Nwonu explained that retired local government staff and UBEB teachers were profiled for the payments.

Expressing joy and satisfaction over the recent development,some of the retirees like Aleke Samuel, Ama Emea Orji, Okpara Oko, among others in an interview expressed joy and satisfaction of the recent development, saying that governor Nwifuru has revived them back to life as many of them are already battling with sickness and other ailments

They thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for celebrating the retirees alive by paying them gratuities.

“I want to say, our years of labour are not in vain. We are alive to see this gracious day, it is a thing of joy and we are very grateful to His Excellency the Governor.

“We wish the Governor strength, we wish him good health as he continues to pilot the affairs of our state from strength to strength and we are praying for another tenure for him”, he said.

The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr Ikeuwa Omebe, ALGON Chairman and Executive Chairman, Ebonyi Local Government, Barr. Chinedu Ubiru, Head of Service, Dr Rita-Mary Okoro and chairman of the screening committee, Mrs Catherine Ogbu among others, appreciated the governor for touching the lives of the retirees who served at the local government level of the state and encouraged them to utilize the fund very well.
