Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno said N2,025,000,000 conditional cash transfer to 27,000 persons in the state is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s practical demonstration of love for the most vulnerable.
Governor Eno expressed this last weekend in Uyo, during the flag-off of the programme.
Eno, who was represented by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Obareki, pledged to leave behind a legacy supporting the most vulnerable in the state through more life-touching projects.
The Governor, who stated that he would continue to support President Tinubu’s initiative, added that the scheme under the National Social Investment Programme was aimed at supporting those on the lower rungs of the economic ladder.
“The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer disbursement to 27,000 beneficiaries from Akwa Ibom State who would each receive N75,000, totaling two billion, twenty-five million naira drawn from the social register across the 31 local government areas, is a practical demonstration of the love and care the President has for Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable.
“As a government, we will continue to support the President and the social investment programmes his administration is undertaking, which have provided succor and empowerment to the poorest and the neediest in our midst.
“I have always said that, even though we are currently embarking on numerous audacious projects of deep economic significance, the greatest legacy I hope to leave behind, will be our impact in the lives of the people, especially the most vulnerable and in the process, help restore their faith in the noble ideals of government and governance,” he stated.
While speaking, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Ms Emem Ibanga, applauded Governor Eno for his dedication to the welfare and poverty alleviation of the people, stating that under his leadership, over 205 ARISE compassionate homes have been built and commissioned for vulnerable individuals.
In his opening remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme, Dr Godwin Akpan, explained that Akwa Ibom was enlisted on the scheme in 2019 with 29,117 households, registered in 9 Local Government Areas, and later scaled up in December 2023, to accommodate all the 31 Local Government Areas.
Dr Akpan revealed that a total of over N2.1 billion has so far been disbursed to beneficiaries between January and July 2025.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Joseph Emmanuel, a visually impaired resident from Ikot Ekpene Local Government, expressed gratitude tp the federal and state governments for the transparent process used to identify the less privileged persons who have benefited from the initiative.
