Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has announced a 4-day mandatory refresher training for all Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) members of staff.

The training will begin from Monday September 22, 2025, ahead of service resumption.

Opeifa made the announcement on Friday September 19, when he met with the AKTS workers at Idu Station where he presented key takeaways from the in-house investigation into the 26th August derailment this year.

At the meeting, they reviewed recovery and restoration progress, and outlined plans for safe service operations.

The managing director told railway workers to, at all times, obey operational directives, especially caution orders.

On welfare, Opeifa reaffirmed that “the approved 95 per cent salary increase will be implemented before year-end and cautioned locomotive drivers against issuing strike notices to management,” noting the disruption such actions cause to national service delivery.

Chairman of Nigerian Union of Railway Workers (NUR), Comrade Kazeem, on behalf of the staff, appreciated the managing director for approving weekend incentives for AKTS personnel who work on weekends.

The managing director was accompanied to the meeting by directors from Civil Engineering, Corporate Planning, and Mechanical.

“The event ended with a group photograph with the AKTS Management Team, underscoring unity of purpose and renewed commitment to safe, reliable service delivery,” according to a report made available to the news media.
