A human rights group, Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network (CRRAN), has petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), and Chairman, National Judicial Council (NJC), over what it described as a manifest false complaint to the police against one Dr. Roberts Anya Nkata, a Security Expert and Consultant by an Enugu Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Ngozi Edeani.
The petition, which is seeking urgent intervention of the CJN and Inspector General of police, and signed by CRRAN President, Barrister Olu Omotayo, was also copied to the Enugu State Chief Judge and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Enugu.
“Appeal For Urgent Intervention and justice: Re: False Complaint to the police by an Enugu Chief Magistrate, Ngozi Edeani (Mrs) of plan to Assassinate her and the husband Against Dr. Robert Anya Nkata is the titled of the petition which is urging the CJN to use his good office to wade into the matter.
“We write to you in respect of the above-mentioned matter in which an Enugu Chief Magistrate Mrs. Ngozi Edeani, wrote a manifest false petition against Dr. Roberts Anya Nkata, a Security Expert and Consultant, that Roberts wants to assassinate her and her husband.
According to the petition, “Dr. Roberts before now has no dealing with Edeani and her husband.
“Ngozi Edeani in the petition made to the Inspector General of Police which is being handled by CP Administration Force CID, Abuja, Hope Okafor, alleged that Dr. Roberts attempted to kill her and her husband at Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, Enugu State during the burial of her late elder brother, Chief Stephen Edeh, on the 23rd May 2025.
“Edeani also alleged that the cheque of N500 thousand Naira gift, Dr. Roberts gave to the family of the deceased was a dud cheque, whereas Dr. Roberts said while he was away in Canada last month, the deceased daughter called him that the open cheque he gave to the family of the deceased was not honoured because his account with the bank had become dormant.
“Dr. Roberts said he told them that money is in the bank account and he will reactivate the account when he returns to the country.
The group said, “Dr. Roberts is surprised that somebody he has no dealings with can use the Police to track him to his residence over an incident the Ngozi Edeani claimed happened in the past five months, and she and her husband never reported the matter at any Police station.
“According to Dr. Roberts, the only motive behind Ngozi Edeani’s false complaint against him is that Nzozi believes that Dr. Roberts was supporting her elder siblings namely, Maria Omego and Arch John Paul Edeh not to withdraw the criminal complaints against Prof Martin Anagboso, and his cohorts who were indicted in an EFCC investigation of allegedly stealing and altering of shares records of the Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Limited at the Corporate Affairs Commission.
“While EFCC was investigating the Criminal alterations and stealing of shares of the three major shareholders of Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Limited by Professor Martin Anagboso; Mrs. Ngozi Edeani a Chief Magistrate at the Enugu State Judiciary who is also the youngest sister of the complainants assured Martin Anagboso and his cohorts that she will scuttle EFCC investigation into the matter.
To this end, “she left her duty post and proceeded to the EFCC Headquarters with the suspects and Reverend Father Edeh whereat they presented a letter prepared by herself Ngozi Edeani, and signed by Father Edeh, claiming that the Edeh family has settled the matter and wanted to withdraw the criminal complaints against the suspects.
“But the EFCC investigators told Father Edeh that he is not the Complainant and the Edeh family was not equally the complainant and he was not invited and that they are surprised that Ngozi Edeani dragged him to the EFCC Office.
“Edeani was thereafter making noise on the EFCC investigators that she didn’t know their interest why they should insists on continuing investigation into the case after she presented the framed letter of withdrawal without the consent of the complainants.
“Ngozi Edeani in the said letter she wanted EFCC to forcefully admit was stated to have been settled illegally with Mayfresh Mortgage Bank Estate at Rehab Road, Emene, Enugu, built under the Mayfresh Housing Scheme, hence her resolve to tamper with investigation and pervert the course of justice and even kill anybody who wants to stop her in her bid to ensure that the suspects at EFCC go scot free, so that she can take over the bank estate promised her.
“The occasion during which Ngozi Edeani alleged that Dr. Roberts attempted to kill her and her husband at Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, Enugu State, was attended by dignitaries all over the world.
“It was held peacefully with security agencies all over the place and no security breaches was recorded during the burial of Late Chief Stephen Edeh, on the 23rd May 2025.
“It would be recalled that Chief Stephen died due to the frustration which arose over the stealing of his shares, his lifetime investment and it was the inability to get justice in respect of the matter that led to the death of the 75 year old man on 16th March 2025.
“Ngozi Edeani used the influence of the CP Hope Okafor to track Dr. Roberts to his residence at Abuja and he was arrested in the afternoon of 4th October 2025.
“The Personal Assistant to CP Hope Okafor is the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), in the matter, and they have refused to admit Dr Roberts to bail at the behest of Ngozi Edeani.
“We condemn in all ramifications the actions perpetrated by the Chief Magistrate Mrs. Ngozi Edeani.
“Her actions at making false complaint against her perceived enemy is unbecoming of a member of the bench who is suppose to uphold justice at all times.
“We demand the urgent intervention of the authorities on this matter, and we further condemn the act of Police arresting citizens over the weekend at the behest of unscrupulous elements in the society who believed that they can subject the Police to their whims and caprices so that innocent citizens can sleep at police detention over the weekend till the next working day.
The group added that “we demand the immediate release on bail of DR. ROBERTS ANYA NKATA, from his place of unlawful detention at the Police Force CID headquarters, Abuja.
