The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Sokoto State Chapter has finally quelled its leadership tussle with 18 out of 25 executive rejecting its former chairman, Honourable Bello Isiyaku aka Kigan and declaring support for Honourable Umar Muhammad Faruk as it new Chairman.

The state Executives of the party said Isiyaku had earlier suffered a suspension and no longer the chairman of the party since the executives resolution to recognise Faruk who was appointed in 2022.

” Isiyaku has ceased to be our state chairman of ADC “, the party stressed.

The development followed a press conference addressed yesterday in Sokoto by the state chapter which belonged to the David Bonaventure Mark faction to resolve the party’s leadership tussle in the state.

Making the declaration, the state party Secretary, Yusuf Abdulkadir Alkali said 18 out of 25 members of the state Executives unanimously support and affiliate their loyalty to Honourable Umar Faruk.

He explained that Faruk was in 2022 appointed by the leadership of Ralph Nwosu at the party’s National convention held in Zaria.

Alkali who recalled how Isiyaku became Chairman before he relinquished to contest for governorship position in the Sokoto state under ADC said the tussle started in 2023 when Isiyaku violated the party’s constitution as contained in article 7 and resolved at a meeting called by the party’s coalition of elders where the executives decided to throw it weight behind Umar Faruk as the new and authentic chairman.
