A group of students under the platform of APC Students Support for Tinubu-Uba has endorsed former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah for the Southern Kaduna Senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at the end of a consultative meeting held in Kafanchan, the headquarters of the Southern Kaduna people.

The group, made up of student leaders and youth coordinators from across tertiary institutions in the zone, said the decision was based on the need for equity and effective representation in the next political cycle.

In a communique issued and signed by the group’s Coordinator, Comrade Gabriel Tanko Kateri, including other members of the group: Sunday Kyom, Musa Silas Wakili and Jumai Kumai Fada after the meeting, the students said Southern Kaduna had remained politically underrepresented in key decision-making structures at both the state and federal levels. They noted that Laah’s return to the senatorial race offers the region another opportunity to push for inclusion through a candidate they described as experienced and accessible.

The group also backed the emergence of Engr. Joseph Almajiri Chiroma as a potential running mate to Governor Uba Sani in 2027, while calling for the appointment of Engr. Mike Auta as a federal minister and Mr. Amos Gwamna as Secretary to the State Government in Kaduna State.

Comrade Gabriel Tanko, said students in Southern Kaduna were no longer willing to play passive roles in the politics of the region.

He said the group had resolved to support individuals who have shown commitment to development, accessibility and inclusive leadership.

He stated that the APC administration in the state had made some progress in infrastructure and youth-focused programmes, but noted that deliberate inclusion of Southern Kaduna voices was still lacking in key governance structures. He urged the party leadership to consider the contributions and expectations of young people from the region as it prepares for the next round of elections.

Supporters of Senator Laah at the event said his experience in the Senate and continued engagement with his constituency remained key factors in their decision. They argued that his presence in the race would improve the chances of the APC in a zone traditionally dominated by opposition parties.

The group described Engr. Chiroma as a mobiliser with wide acceptance across religious and ethnic lines. They also pointed to the policy credentials of Engr. Auta and the administrative background of Mr. Gwamna as reasons for their support.

While noting that other political parties were also making moves in the build-up to 2027, the students said their choice was guided by what they called a growing demand for stability, fairness and competent leadership in the region.

They called on APC leaders at all levels to ensure that zoning, merit and inclusiveness guide future decisions, adding that Southern Kaduna deserves a stronger voice in the political structure of the state and the country.
