Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has urged farmers to redouble efforts at genuinely embracing agricultural activities by judiciously making use of fertiliser and other inputs to boost production for food security.
He noted that agriculture is the historical and lone occupational foundation laid for the average citizens to leverage for development.
Abubakar made the call on Tuesday at the subsidised sales and distribution of 105,800 bags of assorted fertilisers and other inputs worth N299.6 million to farmers for wet and dry season farming in Sokoto state flagged off in Gwadabawa town by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
He noted that agriculture remain the fundamental driving force to achieving food security , stressing that farming was the major source of sustainable development that communities relied on to survive.
The revered monarch represented by the Sa’in Kilgori, Muhammadu Jabbi Kilgori cautioned those saddled with the sakes and distribution of the commodity to have the fear of God and ensure the process was not interfered or hijacked by middlemen at the expense of genuine farmers.
” I urge those conducting the exercise not to allow non farmers to jeopardise the good efforts and intention of the state government .
” Ensure that no diversion of the commodity in any guise”, Abubakar further stressed while commending the giant strides and attention given to the sector by the Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto led government.
” We have been following step by step, your purposeful commitment to vibrant policies and programmes that reflects the yearnings and aspirations of citizens in the state that demonstrates your unequalled vision,” he remarked.
