The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) National Secretariat has written to extend condolences to the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Comrade Abdulgafar Alabelewe, following the demise of his beloved wife, Mrs Hajara Alabelewe after a brief illness in Kaduna early Sunday morning.

SWAN in its condolence message, described the loss as painful.

“On behalf of the National Secretariat of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, I write to condole with you over the death of your dear wife, Hajarah Yahyah Alabelewe.

“Her departure will no doubt leave an endearing gap in your life and that of your loved ones, but the consolation will be that nothing happens outside the will of Allah.

“Please, be consoled and know we are with you in prayers, at this time and always.

“Also, be rest assured of our President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin’s best regards continuously,” SWAN said in the letter written by its Secretary-General, Ikenna Okonkwo.

In a related development, Christian Media Forum (CMF), described late Hajara as a pillar of the Kaduna NUJ Chairman’s family.

“We commiserate with you over the demise of your wife, who was a strong pillar to your family. We pray God grants you fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” CMF said in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Andrew Mshelia.

Also extending condolences, Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) described the death of Mrs. Hajara Alabelewe as painful.

“The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has commiserated with the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Comrade Abdulgafar Alabelewe, over the death of his beloved wife, Hajara Alabelewe,” it said.

In a condolence message signed by Rowland Olonishuwa, National Secretary, NGIJ and made available to journalists on Sunday, the NGIJ described the passing of Mrs. Alabelewe as a painful loss, not only to her immediate family but also to the journalism community in Kaduna and beyond.

“On behalf of the National Executive Council and entire members of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists, we express our heartfelt condolences to our brother, Comrade Abdulgafar Alabelewe, and his family over the demise of his dear wife.

“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives her shortcomings, grants her Aljanah Firdaus, and gives the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement said.

New Nigerian reports that the remains of the deceased were yesterday laid to rest in Kaduna after prayers at Ansarudden Mosque.

Earlier on phone with our correspondent, Comrade Abdulgafar explained that she died after a brief illness.
