Following the tragic accident that occurred along Abakaliki-Enugu express way, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state has confirmed six persons dead, while 14 sustained varying degrees of injuries and blamed the accident on dangerous overtaking by the driver.
The accident, which occurred near the Nkalagu Overhead Bridge in Ishielu Local Government Area, involved a tipper truck and a commercial bus conveying passengers to Enugu.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi State, Anthony Ogbodo, said 22 people were involved in the crash, while two escaped unhurt.
He attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous overtaking on the busy road without respecting road traffic.
Mr. Ogbodo stated that the victims were immediately evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Also, when contacted for his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident, saying that it occurred on Saturday, that he will soon drop full details of the incident for public consumption.
