Amidst raging security challenges and renewed efforts to tame the trend by operatives, and furious with swift reaction, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has urged security agencies in Sokoto State to treat informants the same way bandits are treated.
Aliyu expressed dismay over the activities of some unpatriotic citizens who engage in “informants’ syndrome” for peanuts.
The governor directed this while on condolence visits to communities recently affected by bandits’ attacks in Wurno and Rabah local government areas of the state, where he also expressed determination to fishing out all dastardly informants and those aiding banditry from rural communities by all means.
Similarly, the governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling banditry, urging residents of rural communities to expose anyone found living above his means to the relevant authorities for proper investigation.
Accordingly, the governor warned that such individuals and their accomplices should desist and seek legitimate sources of livelihood, stressing that no informant will be spared under the new strategy being adopted to curb banditry in the state.
” We are therefore, appealing for the usual support from all well-meaning citizens so as to restore lasting peace in communities ravaged by insecurity in the state,” he urged.
Similarly, the governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling banditry urging residents of rural communities to expose anyone found living above his means to the relevant authorities for proper investigation.
Aliyu Sokoto further called on Imams of both Jumu’at and daily prayer mosques to sensitize their congregation on the Islamic position regarding banditry, informants’ activities, and other forms of criminality.
Highlighting his administration’s efforts to ending banditry, Aliyu listed measures such as the provision of over 170 patrol vehicles, motorcycles, upward review of allowances for security personnel deployed to volatile areas, and the establishment of the State’s Community Guard Corps, among others.
He renewed his administration’s readiness to continue supporting the security agencies in the fight against insecurity while acknowledging the continued support and prayers of people in the state for his administration, the governor urged them to sustain the gesture as efforts would be sustained to ensure the spread peace, unity and development of the state.
