TRG To FG: Establish National Rebirth Commission

*Lauds Chief Anyaoku led Patriots planned summit

A non-governmental organization, *The Rebirth Group (TRG) on Tuesday, asked the Federal Government to establish a National Rebirth Commission (NRC) in the country.

TRG gave the charge in a statement signed by the organisation’s Director of Media, Information & Strategy, Dr. Abiola Ajibola, made available to journalists in Ibadan.

The group stressed that the NRC as
an independent coordinating body should harmonize the various ethnic and regional initiatives and provide a structured, inclusive platform for negotiating Nigeria’s constitutional rebirth.

” To actualize this, the proposed NRC should be empowered to oversee the establishment and coordination of the following sub-agencies and committees viz: Truth, Reconciliation, Unity & Equity, Boundary Delineation & Regional Structuring, Constitutional Drafting & Review, Referendum Management and National Transition & Implementation Planning”, it said.

The group added, “The Rebirth Group (TRG) itself is a coalition of professionals, leaders of though and patriots dedicated to the emergence of a restructured Nigeria founded on justice, equity and inclusive governance”

On the Summit organized by The Patriots led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, TRG described it as one of the historic efforts aimed at steering Nigeria away from the brink of collapse and re-direct Nigeria back to the track of genuine nationhood

Commending The Patriots for inviting Nigerians to a Summit aimed at deliberating on ‘The Future of Nigeria’s Constitutional Democracy’’, Convener of the group, Deacon Owolabi Oladejo noted that the Summit holding in Abuja would be “another evidence that Nigeria needs to be re-directed so as to guarantee a meaningful future for it”.

” Efforts of The Patriots are in tandem with the concerns being shown by many patriotic Nigerians, including TRG, over the state of the nation and the need to urgently do something about it. The country is currently in a stage that it must rise above decades of dysfunctional and embrace true federalism by restructuring into autonomous regions.It is only by doing so that we can achieve peace, equity, and sustainable development for all.”

TRG maintained ” For sustainable growth and development to take root in Nigeria soonest, TRG calls on all well-meaning Nigerians, civic organizations and leaders of conscience to join The Patriots (and organizations with similar aim) to seize this historic opportunity to build a just, inclusive and a prosperous future for generations to come.

“To secure lasting peace and progress, TRG firmly believes that Nigeria must be restructured into autonomous regions governed by principles of inclusivity, cooperative governance, and meritocracy”.
