The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi state has confirmed the death of a female lecturer by a hit and run articulated vehicle in the state.

The Sector Commander, Mr. Tenimu Etuku who confirmed the death of the lecturer of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Dr. (Mrs). Oluwakemi Emmanuel described her untimely death as very sad and unfortunate.

Explaining the accident, Etuku said that the incident occurred around 3.30p.m on Wednesday, when the lecturer fell off a commercial motorcycle and hit by a running truck on the highway at Crusher in Lokoja metropolis.

“When the accident happened, our rescue operation team responded timely and quickly rushed the victim to Kogi State Specialist Hospital where she gave up the ghost”, the Section Commander said.

“The corpse of the deceased has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, ” he added.

He expressed shock over the attitude of the yet to be identified okada operator who reportedly sped off after the incident in the pretext that he was chasing the said hit and run truck.

The sector commander cautioned okada riders against contesting the use of the road with enclosed vehicles on the highway to avoid such unfortunate incidence and save lives of their innocent passengers.

Our correspondent reports that late Dr. (Mrs). Oluwakemi Emmanuel in her prime served as a well-respected and admired lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts of the university.

Before now, she was in the department of English and Literary Studies where she handled Literary courses with counterparts in the department.
