The 2025 Annual August meeting, a pet project of Her Excellency, the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti has come and gone, but the sweet memory of the planning and execution of the said conference of the annual gathering of women would continue to linger in the minds of those who witnessed the ceremony at Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia.
The success story of the ceremony held on Saturday August 16, 2025 at playing turf of Council Secretariat, Apumiri, Ubakala was indeed an occasion that brought out the very best from the wife of Executive Mayor of Umuahia South, Mrs Jemilat Enwereuzo,
Indeed, it recorded a huge success as it was celebrated in grand style, the chairperson was able to show class she is made of in terms of mobilization and organizational know-how.
And of course, the success story would not have been possible without the supportive role of the husband/mayor and his team that worked round the clock to support the chairperson and her members to churn out August meeting which has since become talk of the town.
Interestingly, observers are still pouring encomium o the wife of the executive mayor who like her husband, is known for hard work, ensured that no stone was left unturned in her determination in organizing an August meeting that would be adjudge as one of the very best in the seventeen local government areas of the state if not the very best, when eventually other LGAs have taken their turns.
Umuahia South 2025 annual August meeting was indeed a day to behold, from start to conclusion.
From march past, to drama, health talk, display of crops cultivated and harvested by the council area, were very superb, excellently packaged event.
For instance, the march past by various pro women groups were excellent, both in terms of the various attires adorned and marching itself, were to the applause of those who witnessed the epoch making event as the chairperson took the salute amidst clapping and cheering from the jubilant crowd.
Not only that, members of Abia Arise, a political structure of Dr Alex Otti and that of his wife, “Onu Ugu Abia women”, Umuahia South Chapter, were not left out in full participation that spiced the occasion to success.
Umuahia South 2025 Annual August Conference attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, the wife of Abia Governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, Hon. Kingsley Anosike, Commissioner for Budget and Planning and of course, the landlord, the Mayor of Umuahia South, Hon Engr Chinedu Enwereuzo (Chief Host) the Chairperson of Umuahia South, Mrs Jemilat Enwereuzo (Hostess) and Deputy Mayor, Barr Enyinnaya Nnaemeka Nwosu respectively.
Others who attended, included, Dr Ure Abazie, the Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, Hon Dennis Anokwuru, the Vice Chairman, Abia Warriors Football Club as well as Coordinator, Abia Arise, Umuahia South including Ambassador (Mrs) Onyekachi Atulomah Loveday, Ada Abia Global, Mama Abia Tourism, the Vice President, South East Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria.
The Leader of Umuahia South Legislative Council, Hon Engr Ngozi Emmanuel Ebenezer, representing Omaegwu Ward, Deputy Leader, Hon Oscar Chukwuemeka representing Ubakala Ward A, Chief of Staff to the Mayor, Dr Callystus Agomuo, Supervisor for Education, Hon Chief Christopher Nnadozie, Hon Odenga, Supervisor for Works, Hon Chimankpam Isaiah Peter, Supervisor for Agric, Mrs Rose Osisiogu were all in attendance to give needed solidarity to Umuahia South women on their August meeting.
Speaking during the occasion, the wife of Abia Governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti lauded the people of Umuahia South for turning out in their large numbers to celebrate 2025 annual conference
Abia First lady who was represented at the occasion by Mrs Matilda Anyanele, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, said that 2025 August Conference was a vibrant celebration, showcasing the incredible strength, talent, and unity of the government, while commending them for their outstanding contributions, amazing creativity, and unwavering commitment to being veterans of life in their community.
The wife of the Governor however noted that Umuahia South, being part of Abia’s capital city territory, boasts of significant economic and cultural activities, women who play pivotal roles in commerce, agriculture, education, and community development.
Mrs Otti further explained that empowering the women will enhance their contributions to society, while reiterating on the theme for the Annual 2025 August Conference, “ABIA Women :United in strength and power for purpose,” noting that the theme underscores the immense potentials and collective strength of women in Abia State, united in strength, means leveraging their unity to overcome challenges, supporting each other and achieving common goals.
“As primary caregivers, home builders, educators, and contributors to the workforce, women play pivotal roles in driving social and economic and community progress. No doubt, we may influence the well-being of families and communities through their immense contributions.” She said.
Abia first lady therefore, encouraged women to take on professional roles, especially in areas traditionally dominated by men, stressing that by doing so, they can break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and pave the way for future generations.
Earlier in her welcome address, the wife of the Executive Mayor of Umuahia South LGA, Mrs Jemilat Enwereuzo said that they gathered to celebrate the strength, resilience and unity of women of Umuahia South.
The chairperson who noted that the August meeting stands as a living testament to their shared commitment to community development, women’s empowerment and preservation of their rich cultural heritage.
According to her, “As we come together,we acknowledged the challenges before us but more importantly, we celebrate our triumphs ,we cherish our traditions and values, while embracing innovation,progress and boundless opportunities of the future.
“Today is about dialogue, inspiration and action,it is about building bridges, forging partnerships,and creating opportunities that will uplift our women and strengthen our community.”
To this end, Mrs Enwereuzo expressed optimism that their skills acquisition centre will soon be in full operation, adding that the centre will serve as a hub for empowering our women with valuable vocational skills, entrepreneurship training,and the tools for economic independence.
Umuahia South chairperson enumerated that the training programme which will cover vital areas such as :tailoring and fashion design, hairdressing and cosmetology, customary arts and baking, event planning and management.
“Others are, Computer literacy and Basic Computer appreciation, Entrepreneurship Business Management, Agriculture and Modern farming Techniques, Craft Making and Creative Arts, Beauty Therapy and Professional Makeup and Digital Marketing and Social Media Management,” she said.
To this end, wife of the executive mayor appealed to the critical stakeholders to support this bold initiative, help them to expand their reach,enrich the programme and to transform more lives.
The chairperson, Mrs Jemilat Enwereuzo therefore, called on Umuahia South women to take advantage of Her Excellency, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti’s vision for healthy living, by ensuring the protection of their people on the Rubella Measles vaccination to stay healthy.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Umuahia South LGA, Honourable Chinedu Enwereuzo extolled women for turning out en masse to celebrate their 2025 annual August meeting at the council’s secretariat.
