A Civil Society Organization, Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) in collaboration with Adolescent Girl’s Initiative for Learning And Empowerment (AGILE) project, Zamfara state has trained 60 master trainers on life skills programme.
Speaking at the training held in Gusau, the Executive Director of the VAI, Musa Umar said the training is aimed at building the capacity of the trainees on safe spaces activities.
This training is also to update the master trainers towards cascading the knowledge on safe spaces and live skills to the mentor mothers across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.
The participants comprised 60 master trainees who are mainly female teachers drowned from 26 selected female secondary schools across the state.
He called on the participants to focus and participate actively in the training sessions in order gain the required knowledge and skills.
In her remarks, the State AGILE Coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau, described the partnership with the VAI on the training as a welcome development.
She said providing life skills such as education, health and empowerment for adolescent girls is one mandates of AGILE project in the state.
“I appreciate the effort of the VAI for transparency in selecting the best participants.
Abdu Gusau called on the participants to extend all the knowledge to be acquired from the training to the mentor mothers in order to ensure ownership and sustainability.
In a goodwill message, Mr Ibraham Sunday, the Lead Component 2.2 Live skills of the AGILE’s National Project Coordination Unit (NPCU) commended Zamfara Government for providing enabling environment with all the necessary support to implement AGILE programmes.
“I want to use this medium to appreciate Zamfara state Ministry for Education, Science and Technology as well as State AGILE project office for their commitments towards promoting future of adolescent girls in the state,” he said.
Sunday advised Zamfara AGILE office to learned from the first batch of states that implemented various AGILE programs in order to achieve the desired goals.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, said the training would serve as guiding point for adolescent girls to good future mothers in the society.
Madawaki assured state government’s commitment towards achieving all the AGILE projects’ activities and programs in the state.
“As we all know, when you train a man you just train an individual, but when you train a woman you train the whole society.
“I believe, the impact of this training would help in addressing various challenges
“I want to commend the organizers for the right selection of the participants of the training”, he said.
“I believe it will ensure that the goal of the training would be achieved effectively.
“For the participants, I want urge you to consider cultural and religious background of the society while selecting the live skills,’ he added.
The Commissioner assured that the ministry would continue partnering with stakeholders to ensure that the government’s effort to promote future of adolescent girls in the state have been achieved.
For the VAI, we appreciate your effort, we will continue to partner with you and other partners for the development of Zamfara.
Among the important personalities at the opening of the training is Executive Secretary State Mass Education Board, Hajiya Zuwaira Abdu Gusau.
