Women in Logistics and Transportation (WILAT) has affirmed its commitment to ensuring that women remain in the forefront of logistics and intermodal transport management.

Chairperson of WILAT, Khadijat Shabi, expressed the determination on Tuesday, when she led a delegation of the group on a visit to the management of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in Lagos.

The WILAT leader congratulated Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of NRC, for his satisfactory performance in NRC, and “invited him to their annual event scheduled to hold on July 31st at the Oriental Hotel,” according to Callistus Unyimadu, the Ag. Deputy Director, Public Relations of NRC, in a statement.

Shabi disclosed that WILAT has been founded in 28 countries since its establishment in year 2010.

In his address to the WILAT delegation, Opeifa lauded the women for their dedication to professionalism in the transport sector.

He urged them to explore investment opportunities in passenger and freight rail services, and take advantage of new provisions in the amended NRC Act that allows for massive private sector participation.

The NRC chief pointed out that investors can provide locomotives, coaches and or cargo wagons to operate on Nigerian Railway lines.

Opeifa said that NRC is ready to grant Track Access licences for operations just like Lagos State is leveraging this through the Red Line Lagos Metro and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nigeria Limited for Cargo.
