Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has said that Nigerian women will give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a resounding victory come the 2027 general election.
Speaking in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on a day working visit to the State Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) built by the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank-assisted programme, Sulaiman-Ibrahim disclosed that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has embedded this vision in the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention Programmes.
These programmes are designed to restore dignity, expand opportunities, and strengthen families, ensuring that no woman, child, or vulnerable person is left behind.
The minister called on Nigerian women to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives-led administration, noting that the government is committed to turning women into billionaire entrepreneurs and farmers as part of the effort to achieve a one trillion dollars economy.
She stated that Nigeria’s current GDP is estimated at around 500 billion dollars, with Tinubu setting a bold target of growing it to one trillion dollars within a few years.
She added that beyond its cultural heritage, Ogun State has also projected itself as a true theatre of learning through the remarkable implementation of the Nigeria for Women Project, noting that the state has also demonstrated the versatility and resilience of the Nigerian woman, setting a pace for other states to follow.
“The fact that we are joined here today by six Honourable Commissioners from other states on a peer learning visit is a testament to Ogun’s leadership, and to the value of knowledge-sharing in advancing women’s empowerment nationwide.
“It is always a delight to be in Ogun State, the proud home of the famous adire fabric; a cultural treasure that has grown from local tradition to a global signature of creativity, resilience, and identity. In many ways, Ogun State itself embodies this journey, a place where tradition and innovation meet to inspire progress.
“I must salute the Government and people of this great state, and particularly commend the leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for retaining a woman as Deputy Governor; a clear testament to inclusivity and a bold statement that women’s leadership is central to national development.”
The minister commended Ogun State as one of the 35 states that have domesticated the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, stressing that the act is a powerful tool for protecting survivors and holding perpetrators accountable.
“This step demonstrates the state’s commitment to justice and aligns perfectly with our collective vision of a safer and more equitable Nigeria.”
She explained that the Sexual Assault Referral Centre is a shining example of how this vision translates into practice. It is not just a facility.
“It is a refuge of healing, dignity, and hope. Here, survivors receive medical care, psychosocial support, and the assurance that they are not alone. This model shows what is possible when government, partners, and communities work together.
“As we extend immediate support to survivors today, we also look to the future. Working hand in hand with the Ogun State Government, civil society, and development partners, the Ministry will continue to strengthen the Centre and ensure survivors access comprehensive services, from counselling and legal support to economic reintegration, under the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention Programmes.”
Speaking at the occasion, Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, stated that the Women Development Centre is deliberately cited side by side, because the state government believes that healing must go hand in hand with the rebuilding process.
“At the SARC, survivors come in with pain, but they do not remain defined by it. Here, wounds are treated, tears are wiped, voices are restored, and shattered lives begin the journey to wholeness again. Supported and equipped through the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) with World Bank assistance, this Centre boldly declares that violence will never have the final say in our state.”
Adeleye noted that Ogun State has continued to champion women and child protection through sensitization walks, grassroots training, empowerment schemes, and child-focused programmes.
“Our Oko’owo Dapo Empowerment Model, working hand in hand with the Nigeria for Women Project, is opening doors of economic opportunity, especially for rural women.
“But as we reflected, we asked ourselves: what happens after the tears are wiped and the scars begin to heal? Survivors need more than just recovery, they need renewal. That is why, just a few steps away, we placed the Women Development Centre. The vision is simple but profound: when a woman walks out of the SARC, she should not only be healing, but also building.”
